We need to care for those who care for us

Migrant domestic workers play an integral role in our society. They have an incredible impact on our families, our homes, and our community. Yet they are often overlooked, mistreated, and not cared for.

We want to change that.

Celebration of Care Festival

On December 19, we will take over the Star Ferry Central Terminal and bring together ambassadors, influencers, organizations, and voices across the sector to change the narrative around domestic work, and to build more respect and inclusion for workers in Hong Kong.

How to get involved

  • This project was born out of a coalition of 14+ NGOs, but all organizations are welcome to take part. This can be a great moment for you to thank your Ambassadors and community, or to raise awareness for the programs and services you provide. You can also use this as a moment to fundraise and highlight the impact of your work. Here are a few specific ways to activate:

Engage audiences primarily in Hong Kong but also around the world on social media, inviting them to share their stories, experiences, and gratitude around migrant workers, and to more personally connect with the Care at Work HK campaign (tag @careatworkhk)

Educate and inform your audiences about the work and impact that migrant workers, especially Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs), have on everyone by sharing migrant workers’ stories and helping people understand migrant workers’ experiences

Run a gratitude campaign that highlights the contributions of migrant workers in alignment with your cause by posting a “thank you” note and using the hashtag #CareHK

Write a thought leadership piece or op-ed on the valuable contributions of migrant workers and connect it to your cause

Fundraise and share your impact. While the primary goal is to raise awareness and show appreciation for MDWs and all that they do for our community, you can also use this moment to ask for support for your programs that serve the MDW community

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

We’ve created a toolkit with ideas for all people and organizations to participate.

How to get involved

Migrant domestic workers (MDWs) account for 5% of the Hong Kong population. They work 6+ days a week, taking care of our families and housework, and really making our lives possible.

They deserve our care and respect.

Help us spread a collective message of gratitude to the migrant domestic workers in our lives and create more visibility for the incredible talents and contributions of their community.
